Last Months Meeting

• Lynette did a First Aid session including CPR and demonstrated how to use a defibrillator.

This Months Meeting AGM

• Will be at Extreme Edge Rock Climbing on Greenwood street
• The AGM will be held
• DVD on River crossings

Meeting Venue New

This months meeting will be held at Extreme Edge indoor rock climbing 90 Greenwood Street (almost oposite KFC). Extreme Edge are offering 10% off for SAR members on the night so head down about 6pm for some fun. It can be cold there so make sure you have some warm clothing.

Monthly Training

This months training will be on the last Wednesday of May, the 30th. It will be on the south or west side of Hamilton. More details once they are finalised.

Pager Test Message

Reminder for all those members with pagers. The first of every month a test message is sent out to ensure your pager is operational, if you do not receive this message you should contact Matt.

Callouts

• Friday April 6^th, Pirongia for a girl who had ended up on the Mahaukura track after going to Ruapane and following a possum bait line on the way back down.
• Sunday May 6^th, near Matamata standby to search for a missing hunter who walked out approx 10.30am.
• Monday May 14^th, near Te Uku standby to search for two hunters who walked out. They had been caught by darkness and become lost.

Overnight Exercise New

Matt is organsing a combined overnight event in conjunction with Raglan coastguard for sometime in June or July.

LandSAR CEO Visit New

The new LandSAR CEO, Harry Maher, may be visiting Hamilton on Wednesday the 20^th of June. The details will be confirmed soon.

Chairperson New

Profile

For the last 12 years the Hamilton Search and Rescue Group has been providing an outstanding service by working with the Police to find people lost in the bush and towns around the Waikato. Run entirely by volunteers these enthusiastic and highly trained members are ready at a moment’s notice to drop what they are doing and respond to a search event.

Outline of duties

We are seeking a new Chairman for the committee which manages day to day activities of the group. The committee mainly involved in the recruitment and training of members. The Chairman is expected to manage the committee meetings and to provide guidance for the group. The chairman would also be expected to drive the reviews of the strategic plan and ensure the group is meeting its statutory requirements. The committee meets on the second Monday of each month at 7.00pm.

Benefits or skills to be gained by volunteer(s)

The successful applicant will get to enjoy the company of a great bunch of outdoor oriented volunteers who are committed to serving the community. The chairman would be welcome to attend the group training sessions but would not be expected to turn out for a search in the middle of the night.

Skills or education required/preferred

It is preferred that applicants have previous chair and governance experience. A background in management would be advantageous.

Any special personality requirements?

A sense of humour and some patience are essential as is the ability to work with passionate people.

What (if any) training do you provide?

Familiarisation with the organisation and how it works will be provided.
